How Many Times Can You Reload Rifle Brass

How many times can yous reload brass?

Reloading equipment, methods, load data, powder and projectile data.

How many times can you lot reload brass?

Hi guys,

Like the championship says... How many times can you reload brass?

Obviously if the neck is split or in that location is some example separation happening you chuck the thing, only outside of that I've read anywhere from 5 to 20 or 30 but people don't actually seem to accept much logic behind their number. They just make up one's mind it's no longer any adept after that many reloads.

I'd similar to know peoples reasoning behind their magic number if they care to share.

Thx.

I've been reloading my Winchester .222 brass for 32 years now and merely chuck the odd example with a split neck and then pulverization measures and such are made from them.

There's nevertheless a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I oasis't tried yet.

I'd have to notice it (tin't be bothered ) but there is an commodity somewhere, might be 6mmbr or something... Google for it and hopefully you notice information technology.

Anyway... At that place'due south a guy who shot a 700m or 800m record or something, and he was on his 54th reload for the brass.

He annealed it every fourth dimension which would help, but that's a southward**t load more than than well-nigh people thing you tin can go out them.

Depends on your load greatly.

I just trimmed a bunch of brass with a mate after a days load testing for his .308.

The contumely with starting load didn't need a trim at all. His max load cartridges needed nearly a mm trimmed off afterward.

Obviously the formed will terminal a lot longer than the latter which is have a few grains of brass thinned out and trimmed off each time.

It is and so variable, Winchester .308 I get heaps of for nada so load information technology five times and chuck, out of sometime ex mil brass throuigh the target rifle I had ane set that was at its l 8th loading, neck and body sizing only and annealing at x (lost a few to neck splits anyway).

.303 upwards to 30 with moderate loads and practiced contumely to start with neck sized only. I more often than not run .303 until they are almost to seperate or xxx and they get "bush-league" loads that tin can be left.

.223, I started off with 100 for my target rifle loaded them twelve times each then sold the target rifle and loaded them another 8 times through my Howa and then started to be supplied ammo so they are sitting on the demote at the moment.

Lee collet dies are practiced and the cases last longer with less neck splits, moderate loads are good for cases and as a guide if you lot take to trim more than every quaternary shot either you lot are loading also hot or yous ain a Hornet.

As Hardcast said there is no magic number.

For costing purposes I work on 10 reloads.

There are also many variables to quote or even hint a number of times you can reload the same cases.

Quality of the cases, calibre, powder load, reloading do used, annealing and the list goes on.

Some cases might fail later on just a few reloads for whatever number of reasons.

One competative target shooter in the USA using a 30BR as reported a couple of years agone had fired over eight,000 rounds through his barrel, initially prepared 150 cases and still reloading the same cases. That'south ove fifty reloads each and still winning competitions.

Some calibres just stress cartridge cases more than than others.

So, no simple respond. Just proceed a shut eye on your cases.

Then, no simple answer. Just go along a close eye on your cases.

Yup.

If y'all're worried about it, Roob, a lot of guys pick a fixed number and chuck their brass at that point before reaching the "potential problem zone".

If y'all shoot it 10x or whatever then chuck it, it's nonetheless pretty cheap and you've got your moneys worth.
